Kennesaw, GA — Yamaha's WaveRunner FX140 four-stroke personal watercraft earned top honors in the Recreational products category second place overall behind the MAP Spacecraft, currently orbiting the sun, in Popular Science magazine's Readers' Choice Awards. According to a press release from Yamaha, the FX140 was selected from 101 entries.

"I guess this makes our WaveRunner the Popular Science Reader's Choice Award winner for earthbound products," said Mark Speaks, president of the Yamaha Watercraft group. "Still, topping the list above such names as Apple Computer, Audi and Harley-Davidson is an accomplishment the entire watercraft industry can be proud of."

The Yamaha FX140 is powered by the Yamaha MR-1 four-stroke motor, which delivers strong performance and fuel economy. The Yamaha FX140 is dramatically lower in exhaust emissions than conventional two-stroke models and, according to the manufacturer, is up to 70 percent quieter at cruising speeds than the quietest two-stroke direct injection models available.

In addition to the awards by Popular Science, the Yamaha FX140 received the Popular Mechanics 2002 Design and Engineering Award as well as Motor Boating magazine's Editors' Choice Award.
